Innovation Waves is a workshop where the main focus is on introducing, discussing and developing different ideas in the Icelandic music scene. The aim is to encourage everyone that works in the music scene to use their creative thinking in their work and discover solutions with interdisciplinary cooperation and support from specialists. Participants will be a part of a workshop that encourages creative thinking and they will get the support needed for their ideas/projects. 
Experts in the fields will be involved as mentors, both from the music- and innovation scene.
Goals:
  • Bring the Icelandic music industry to a higher professional level
  • Foster entrepreneurs within the music industry
  • Give attendees the tools needed to increase their business opportunities and income
  • Get better, more, and stronger businesses within the music industry
  • Strengthen the business ecosystem for musicians

  • 09.00 Kick off. Overview of the setup and the flow of the day.
  • 09.30 Short lectures.
  • 10.30 Participants will be split in groups and start working on the ideas or projects with the help of specialists.

Mentors

José Ramos

José is a Program Director at MIT Industrial Liaison Program. José is a team leader with ample experience in R&D and commercial/industrial technology solutions. Currently focusing on IoT technologies, market research, financial modeling, due diligence activities, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Master of Arts from Boston College.

José is a man of many hats mixing the business side and the arts and he has also been the party animal for Celebs.

Helga Waage

Helga is a software entrepreneur with extensive experience in project management, software architectural design and software development. She is an expert in the fields of AI, mobile technology, real time data and ecommerce. She also have extensive experience in large-scale, high-availability, distributed systems.

She is passionate about startups, startup communities and technology research. She actively participates in these areas by mentoring entrepreneurs, evaluating research projects and business proposals; and participating in various groups and committees on a national and European level.

Scott Fetters

Scott Fetters is co-founder and director of 2112, a creative industries hub in Chicago providing intentional community, educational resources, mentorship, and access to capital.

In 2020, he founded the Center for Creative Entrepreneurship, expanding 2112’s educational outreach and empowering creatives with the knowledge, skills, and relationships necessary for business success.

Edda Konráðsdóttir

Edda is co-founder at Iceland Innovation Week. She is an experienced Project Manager fostering the vibrant innovation- & entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Nordics by helping startups grow within and out of the region.
Since joining the Nordic startup ecosystem in 2015 she has managed award-winning Nordic tech accelerators, international scaling projects, and mentored hundreds of startups. She’s driven by a desire to build strong relationships between the Nordic countries to make it the best place for startups to grow up.

Sigtryggur Baldursson

Sigtryggur Baldursson is the managing director for the Iceland Music Export office, called Iceland Music.
He is also a veteran musician.
Outside of Iceland he is best known for his work with Björks first international band, the Sugarcubes, from ´86 - ´92, and one of the founders of their music label, Bad Taste (Smekkleysa).

He has also worked extensively with Emiliana Torrini and other artists both locally and internationally.
Iceland Music runs two english websites, www.icelandmusic.is and www.record.iceland.is
It also operates various projects involved with marketing and promoting Icelandic music and studio´s worldwide.
IM is a member of the Nomex network of nordic music offices.

María Rut Reynisdóttir

María Rut Reynisdóttir is currently heading the cultural office at Reykjavík’s Department of Culture and Sports but in January 2024 she will venture into a new role as the director of Iceland’s brand new national music office. María spearheaded the work of Reykjavík Music City from the start of the project back in 2017 until fall 2022. Prior to that she was the manager of Icelandic artist Ásgeir, the director of the Icelandic Music Awards for four consecutive years and program manager of Iceland Airwaves back in 2010. María is a board member of the Music Cities Network and previously she has served as a board member of Harpa Concert and Conference Hall and ambassador of the Nordic Culture Fund to Iceland (2019 - 2022).

Jacek Kozlovski

Jacek Kozlowski works for Toronto-based Artoffact Records from his home in Reykjavík, Iceland. The label has inked deals with ULTRA SUNN, KEN mode, Ploho, Kælan Mikla, Cevin Key, GGGOLDDD, Cloud Rat, Front Line Assembly, and many others and counts industrial-metal rising stars 3TEETH and goth-metal group Xandria amongst its alumni. 

Jacek was born in Poland, grew up in Toronto, Canada, and has lived in Winnipeg, Helsinki, and Reykjavik. He spent his 20s in academia, receiving degrees in English Philology from the University of Manitoba, and the University of Helsinki.

Michael Hendrix

R. Michael Hendrix is a designer, musician and author obsessed with creativity. As a Partner and Global Design Director at innovation firm IDEO he worked with teams on everything from home goods to homeland security. 

As Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music he taught students how to transfer their virtuosity to all parts of their lives. He is also a part-time lecturer at Háskólinn á Bifröst and coauthor of Two Beats Ahead: What Musical Minds Teach Us About Innovation, written with Panos A. Panay, President of the Recording Academy, presenter of the GRAMMYs.
